The Art of Cooking
For the past couple months, I have been heavily indulged myself in the realm of cooking. I would go crazy searching online for recipes of the dishes Ben likes or dishes I crave for. But if you ask do I like to cook? I would probably say no. Cooking takes up a lot of time and energy (for me), and just thinking about all the preparatory steps I need to take (chopping vegetables, marinating meat, and much more) is enough to make me lose my appetite. However, I do enjoy very much tasting the “outcomes”, as well as receiving the compliments from Ben for the dished that fit his taste. Being praised on a job well done is a very satisfying feeling!
As a novice cook, I found that you cannot follow one recipe exactly the way it is written. There are always occasions that I need to twist it here and there on the amount of ingredient used, or even substitute or toss out one of the ingredients. Therefore, there have been a lot of trial and errors and incidents when we end up ordering take-out after all the hard work being put into the kitchen.
I think I have gradually gotten a hang of cooking and am able to manage making dinner in the shortest time. The next thing, I would like to give baking a try. Making breads has been on my mind for quite a while now, way before I started cooking, but the dreadful dough kneading task puts that thought on hold. Now, Sung is going to let me borrow her bread machine. I will try it out for sure to see if it is worth to buy, otherwise I might just invest a fortune on a stand mixer.
Over the past weekend, I got fixated on this TV show called Chefography on Food Network. I watched the episodes on Rachel Ray, Julia Child, and Wolfgang Puck and thought that their stories were all pretty inspiring. Nonetheless, It would take me a tremendous amount of passion for cooking (which I don’t have) to become quarter as good as them.
Hi Tiff! I know what you mean about cooking. Sometimes I feel unmotivated to cook anything because of the time it takes. I usually get excited about it though when I watch the food network too. I love chef at home. He makes things so easy.
I tried cooking a pasta sauce last night, which ended up being a meat sauce. It didn’t actually taste that good and I’m quite sad, so I think I’ll try to recook it today. I wish I had some cooking wine though.
